Sickness / Sunday, June 18, 2006 @ 10:37 PM
I think I have a sickness. I absolutely cannot enter a bookstore without buying any books! I already have 6 books at home that I have not read and there I was browsing prizes for the kids writing competition and I could not stop myself from going through books for myself. Arghhhhhhhhhhhh. Furthermore, I just got myself subscribed to BWW Book of the Month programme and it will start next month so I have more books to read. Before I start reading fiction books, I had better make sure that I finish reading all books recommended by BWW first. At the moment I am reading No Experience Necessary by Ron Baker. Its an excellent book for all business owners. Go get it. Today I was distracted by this book tittled 'Conversations With The Fat Girl'. It is the first time I see this book and I somehow fell in love with it. As a child, I was a fat girl myself. In fact, I think I am still fat now but what the heck. Growing up just wasnt that easy when you are different from the majority. I wasnt teased or anything like that but somewhere inside, there was a serious problem in the self esteem department. I also didnt think I was worthy of anything really. Of course at that time I didnt know that I was going through depression. It saddens me to see that there are still people being treated as second class just because they are fat. People should be educated by now, and even issues like religion, race, culture should not be an excuse to treat someone differently from the rest. We are in the millenium for goodness sake. Anyway there was a blog address of the author at the back of the book. So being a nosey as always, I went to check out the author and read a little bit about her and about the book. I like to find out more about a book before I actually buy it. However since I fell in love with the tittle, I bought without much hesitation. It turns out that there is a link to the website and there I was browsing around and I found out that the author was young! The website didnt state how old exactly but there were several pictures and no white hair and no big wrinkles. The signs of being young! So if I were to send any message to the author, she will actually get to read it! Famous author and me. I like it. Thank you to whoever invented technology. After my encounter with Mr John Fuhrman, THE famous author who wrote in my guestbook, I went goggling my other favourite authors to find out which ones were still alive. Because, if they are alive, chances are they might stumble onto my site and read my review on their book! The website has been MIA these few months. I was going to move to blogger but after Mr John Fuhrman left a message there, leaving the site means leaving his message too. But you know, xanga has a lot of ads and its an eyesore. If I were to move, I better move this week as I am not working this week so I have more time than usual to set up and design the site. What do you think I should do? I got the kids some Enid Blyton books and RL Stine books. I have been reading Enid Blyton's books since I was young and there is always a moral behind each magical story. I saw some Meg Cabot's books too, author of the series of Princess Diaries books. The book covers are so attractive and I was very tempted to buy them! Honestly I have not read any of Meg Cabot's books but I have heard great things about it. Well, maybe one day. You can check out the complete booklist of her books here. Reading every authors background and their journey before getting published is almost the same. Most authors are rejected hundreds of time before being published and it is their determination and persistence that will ultimately determine their success. While I was browsing the other books, I wonder when is the time I get to see my name on one of the books. I have always enjoyed writing but somehow it didnt occur to me to go and get my works published. It wasnt until about 2 years ago, someone told me that if I really want to be an author and get published, start writing now. And since, I have followed her advice. Of course there will be rejection and hey all success consist of rejections! It is in the package, no short cuts. I shall get published, no matter what. Of course now I have to focus on building the business first and then retire before I am 30. I shall not be denied! Other news, I have been having problems uploading any pics/images on bloggger! Its annoying me! I use imageshack to host the pics first before taking the url to upload it here. For all you blogger users, you know after you click 'done' when the message says that you have successfully upload the pic/image, the pic/image will appear in your post? It doesnt appear!! I have tried many times from different computers and the problem is constant. The only way to have the image appear is to insert the html code into the post. Even then, the image will be centred and I cant make it to be on the left or right. Its such a silly problem and I have send a message to blogger but God knows when they will respond. So anyone out there know anything about this, please help me? Pretty please? |
