mmitted suicide again yesterday! This time it was from the same building as my working place. Just last week, if you can recall I posted about the superman impersonator who jumped down to her death. From the rumours that has been flying around in this neighbourhood, she was a 40+ year old woman who was having depression. She left 3 kids, all still young.
Today I was told that the person who was trying to get her shot at flying was a 20+ year old lady. I remember a policeman coming to my workplace yesterday afternoon and asked who called for the police. I was like duh, not here! It was then found out that there was somebody contemplating to jumped down from this building. Its like, a growing trend in this neighbourhood for people to jump down to their death! Why here again? Go find another place to jump! What were they thinking? That jumping down to their death actually will solve their problems?!
Isnt it sad that when your life is over, people actually remember you for your last act of attempted flying? Is that really what people want to be remembered for? Life is precious. God did not put you down on this Earth so you can be remembered for jumping down to your death. Which brings me to my next point about living life.
On Monday, I was showing plan to this lady who was extremely sharp. She was a referral from another friend and it was the first time we met. Suprising, we had so much in common, particularly how we think and how we view the world. I learnt that she left her last job because it was filled with too much politics on money. She was working in a private hospital and she mentioned that most of the times, the patients are rich people. Apparently, she received instructions that in any case, you have to choose to work with one out of the two choices you have, choose the patient which is paying more. Those who pay more deserves more attention. (horror!)There is just something disturbing about this to me. So did she. What if there are times when the patients who need immediate attention is not as rich as the other patients? What is going to happen then?!
All that aside, we seem to have a certain amount of great chemistry going on. I was really impressed by how mature her thoughts were despite her young age. So before we go our separate ways home, I reminded her to be careful who she checks this business opportunity with. I told her that in life we will always hear 2 voices, like I mention in my previous post. Make a wise choice who you choose to listen to. Also, when you wanna do something great, there will be people who will challenge you in the form laughter or ridicule. If no one is talking about what you are doing, it just means that you are not doing anything worthwhile for them to talk about.
So guess what? She went to check with somebody. Apparently she checked with her mom and her mom discourages her and says that it will be waste of time to do this. Upon hearing that, I took a deep breath. This was how the conversation goes.
Me: So I believe you are very close to your mum. Thats why you check with her regarding this opportunity?
Her: Yes.
Me: Can I ask you something?
Her: Sure.
Me: Lets just say you want to be a surgeon, who do you learn from? A surgeon or a chef?
Her: A surgeon of course.
Me: Ok. Thats great. I like the way you think. So is your mom a business owner?
Her: No. She's a stay home mum.
Me: Isnt it the same? When you want to expertise in anything, eg, business, a major, dont you usually check with the person who is already successful in that particular field? You wouldnt just check with just any Tom, Dick and Harry. Right?
At this point of time she looks like she have no answer for me. So, to avoid
the awkward moment, I started to laugh. I had learnt that a laughter is the perfect remedy for situations like this. This proves my point. I have always believe that we always have a choice to do whats best for us. Many times we checked with the wrong people. It is not really their fault because sometimes they do want to give you the best advice possible. However their knowledge and expertise on your interests is limited.
So there goes, a great potential down the drain. I find that some people have lots of potential in them which they fail to see. Most of the times, I see people resisting change because they are way too comfortable in their comfort zones. There's nothing wrong with that of course, but successful people achieve great things because they are willing to learn and change. All it takes is your active involvement in bringing that about.
I am not dissapointed for me, but rather for her as being young, ambitious and sharp, she has a bright future as a successful business owner. Maybe I didnt manage to uplift her enough to give the confidence. This doesnt bother me anyway. I still intend to keep in touch with her and who knows in the future, some things may change.
