Life in General First of all, let me wish Massie happy birthday! She celebrates her 21st birthday today..and I honestly thought she was turning 22. Haha.. It seems like so long ago I celebrated my 21st birthday. Its only been a few years actually so I have no idea why I feel so old. Maybe at that time, there was no one to welcome me to adulthood, no one to warn me about adult life, no one. No advice. I am convinced that schools are created so that they can lie to us. To make us believe that life was going to be easy, fun and simple. It is sooooo not true. When I had the opportunity to teach, I always tell my students that life is going to be hard and there is nothing they can do to change it. However, what they can do now, is to develop themselves into strong individuals and equip themselves with the knowledge they might need later in life. Some took it good, some didnt. At least I do not tell my students that studying hard and getting good results in school is going to help in making their dreams come true. That is the lie that they told me when I was in school. The key to making it big is to think outside the box, do not follow tradition and have the guts be different. Around late last year, I was so fortunate to reconcile with my mates from primary school. It was interesting when we started talking and updating each other on what we were doing. The weird thing was, the top students and the students who did well then, are either still in school or working a job they hated. 2 of my friends who did not even go to any polytechnic or junior college, are now either doing well with a high paid job or doing something they love. Isnt that just weird or ironic. I was suprised when one of my 'naughty' classmates is getting double of my pay when she did not even further her studies after O level. Which draws me to this conclusion: Your success do not depend on your paper qualifications. Your success depend on you. I am not putting down education, I am in the teaching line. But as teachers what are we teaching our students? To look good on paper? Or to look good as a whole? I have been emphasizing that although academic results are important, it is more important to be the person you want to be, and then feel good about it. Not many people in this world feel good about themselves. My eyes are really hurting, probably due to the haze. Sometimes we take the simple luxuries in life for granted. We did not appreciate the clean air when we had it. Now we are breathing in all these impurities and if some irresponsible people dont learn their lesson, we make them learn their lesson. Save the environment. Save your future. ps: Before I forget, do you see the button 'Vote' just below the 'Email' button. Do vote only if you think this blog deserves your vote.
