Look at the picture above. Isnt it lovely? I have always have a thing for beaches and I simply love the feeling of walking along the beach, especially during sunset. The atmostphere is so serene to me and to be able to walk along the beach on a daily basis with my loved one, shall for now remain a dream, but I shall achieve this soon enough.

Anyway, this picture above represents many things. You can interpret yourself.

This week has been filled with so many fulfilling events and news. I am excited to share with you, with the hope that you will find your own inspiration from daily events. Its all around you, you just have to look.

1st Incident

The boys started their exams on Tuesday. I was determined to see all of them (even though they all from different classes!) before their exams to wish them good luck and also to give them that extra boost of confidence before taking their paper. I met some of the P2s and made them promise me that they will never ever leave a blank on their exams papers, even when they do not know what to write. So there I was at 7 am in the morning going to one class after another just to give them that handshake of luck. Nathaniel, a P4 boy was seen extremely suprised at my gesture. I told him that I know it is very difficult to write sometimes but I know he can do it as he has improved so much from attending my classes. There is simply no reason to give up. After explaining to the class what to do with the extra 15 mins that they are entitled to, I wish the P4s a final good luck and left.

It wasnt until Wednesday when Nathaniels form teacher knocked onto the door of my classroom and said that he needed my help. I was having lessons with 2 boys at that time but the teacher sounded really urgent so I let the 2 boys do some puzzles while I attend to him.

Apparently, the class just received their math paper and upon receiving it, Nathaniel started crying like a baby. I asked him why was he crying and he sobbingly told me he had failed by 20 marks. I have always believe that he is extremely talented in math but he has difficulties transfering what he know onto paper and that was the main reason for failing the paper. I asked him if he had ever passed his math paper before and he said never. He looked so dissapointed, perhaps thanks to my affirmations, he somehow believe he could do better this time. I feel for him.

2nd Incident

I was approached by one of Joe teacher saying that he failed his English test badly because he left blanks. Joe, like Nathaniel, had one of the lowest self esteem among all the boys I see. I knew that writing and reading is extremely tiring for him. Like mentioned before, I made Joe, along with some other boys promise me not to leave any blank this time.

So on Tuesday when I met them for lesson right after their English exams, I asked them how did they find the paper. They said it was easy (really??!!!). I asked them if they left any blanks and that was when Joe said:

I did not leave anything blank, remember I promise you yesterday?

Such cuteness, I thought these boys are supposed to be really forgetful. But the fact that they remembered the conversation I had with them goes to show that they can remember stuff that they feel are important to them.

In both accasions, I was touched again by their displayed acts. This means that they believe me when I tell them that they can do it. Perhaps they seldom hear it so to hear it from someone means so much and I am sure they will remember me as the teacher who genuinely believed in them.

It is little acts and conversations like this these that reminds me of why I do what I do. It is simply rewarding and if I wish I can write about each and everyone of them who thought that I taught them so many things they did not know. In actualy fact, they taught me that life is full of opprotunities and inspirations. I am blessed.

The experience of speaking in NIE again was great. I think I learn just as much even when I am not the student there. I actually bumped into a fellow sista from poly! What a small world, either that or I do know a lot of people. Haha. The trainee teachers did asked some really good questions and I was suprised to see Kevin there representing DAS. I was more shocked when he took the bus. He should be able to afford a car right? Oh well, sharing the ride (yay, somebody elses drove!) to the train station was a good opportunity for him to chat with me informally. I am even getting used to understanding his accent. Thank goodness for that.

If you are a fellow SNO in phase 1 and 2, you must be dying to ask me questions about the formation of the CPD team right? Ok, maybe not dying, haha. I shall reveal it all in the next post. Man. That phonecall really put me in daze and I am having trouble finding the right person to ask for advice.

I shall reveal it all ......soon.
