Where is the money??!!

You Are a Chimera

You are very outgoing and well connected to many people.
Incredibly devoted to your family and friends, you find purpose in nurturing others.
You are rarely alone, and you do best in the company of others.
You are incredibly expressive, and people are sometimes overwhelmed by your strong emotions.

I am not pretty but please, I DO look better than the chimera. Haha!

I was so inspired by Lisa last week that I decided to start writing during open meeting first session. I was amazed by the amount of rippled thoughts one can have while listening the winners speak. This Wednesday, Arul and Lynnette was showing the plan and as always it was full of laughter and excitement. The following was what was written in my notebook, I could just write and write.

Arul started by asking the guests about the different kinds of ways we can make money in Singapore. Some mentioned, getting a part time job, tutoring, investing, starting a small business. Sadly, many of us might have enough money to shop every month, change our phone regularly, dine in a restaurant, buy a car, but why do these same people also feel ike they can never have enough money?

The current book that I am reading is simply awesome. However, if you are a new teacher in schools, do not read it. It will make you wonder whether you made the right choice to enter teaching. Its not that the book was dishing teachers, its just that the education system on the whole still needs work that are beyond the teachers power.

I think the main point about reading is not to be 100% influenced by any particular book. Upon reading the book, I was glad to see I was not doing some of the issues that the author felt strongly against. For instance, I do not penalise students for making mistakes, I dont put crosses in their work etc. Its basic common sense but sometimes, we forget who we really are just to fulfil who we should be at work. That is sad.

Do you realised that the school had done a wonderful job in teaching the students how to count money? However, they have failed to teach students how to make money. So logically, if there is no money, what is there to count?

Perhaps it is our mentality. What most of us fail to relise is that it is not how much money we make, it is how much money we keep. I have failed to learn this. So many years of working should have placed me in a good financially stable position right. Ok lets see, I started working at 16 years young, earning $3.50 an hour. Then I went on to tutoring, so I earn about $200 each month for my own pocket money while I was in poly. I dont remember my dad giving me money in poly which was why I continued working at the fast food place even after O levels. But lets not start there, let me start with my job at SCC. So the pay is crappy but after calculating, this is what I found out.

1 year of work = $13, 200 earned (net)
5 years of work = $66,000

I have earned $66,000 in my 5 years of working life! Sooooooooo, if I spend half and pay my expenses and all that, I still should have at least $20,000 in my bank account! Where is the money????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Rethinking about my financial situation only came about when I started the business, thank goodness. I consider this wake up call a blessing, as I am not getting any younger and I should really plan for my retirement now.

I wouldnt want to go back to working in fast food outlets in my old age right?
