You can call me Noi! This blog consists of my thoughts. I am just a simple person with BIG dreams! Like the charcoal, hot pressure and extreme heat must be present in order to create a Diamond. I am in the exact same process.

Sleeping with sharks

Oh well, not really, haha. I didnt want to sleep with anywhere near the sharks even though there was a glass separating us.

As most of you know, I had the opportunity to not only visit Sentosa, but also stay there for the night! The last time I was there, was 20 years ago and of course so many things had change. I was so priviledge to be invited to join in the trip along with 4 other teachers. We slept inside Underwater World, literally, in the tunnel area, the whole stretch of it! I was excited ok, I thought, even more than the boys. Let me just give you a brief description of what happened.

We arrived at about 6.30 pm and we had 2 facilitators guiding us and explaining about the Udnerwater World before we actually went inside it. The boys asked the silliest questions, which, I must admit, I had the same questions too. For once, I thought the boys were more knowledgeable than me because they were able to name some of the rare fishes, while me, the adult, was refering the fishes to their colour and size. I know. Lame.

At about 7 pm we were served dinner, it was delicious and I can jolly well throw all my diet plans for the week down the drain. Haha. After that we went in and it was exciting! So many types of fishes (See? I cant name them!) and they were all so beautiful. I was mostly attracted to Gracie, the Dugong. Due to the shape of her mouth, she looked like she was smiling and it was really just fascinating to watch her swim!

Another beautiful and equally fascinating to watch was the sea angels. Its really pretty! I thought I could just stay there and be fascinated by the way they swim, which looked like they are flying. So many types of fishes, and they all looked cute to me! Haha! I have uploaded the pictures at my facebook account so you can just view it there. How beautiful are these creations of God, I was blown away.

After that we had supper, I know, we just ate 2 hours ago. It was delicious too, yes I liked the food very much! While preparing to sleep, the boys were given some time to wash up before going to bed. Since there are only 6 cubicles (they used the female toilet since its all boys), the faciliators let the boys watch this movie about a fish creature that kills. I know! What a movie to watch right before we sleep in the aquarium! What was funny was, in the middle of the show, there was power trip and the lights went off! It wasnt so bad for us in the seminar room as there was the still light on but for the boys who were bathing in the toilet, it was pitch dark! Thank goodness, they didnt panic. I was actually suprised that nobody screamed or panic. I was proud of the boys, they were able to handle the situation. It was really dark, if you put your hand in front of your face, you wont be able to see it. Poor Kok Soon had to go to the toilet to help the boys since he was the only male teacher around. Haha.

We actually got to choose where exactly we wanted to sleep in the tunnel. Initially I wanted to sleep where the Dugong was, but it was dark there, even with the lights on. Apparrently, that area is dark because the fishes there prefered it like that. In the end I slept near the stingray area, I was at the end of the line, the whole stretch of boys were too excited to even sleep, they were still fascinated by the whole experience. Truth be told, I was too!

Imagine waking up in the aquarium, with fishes swimming, it was really cool. Except that I could not sleep well, the sleeping bag was too thin and my back hurts. In fact, by morning, my whole body ached like crazy and I am seriously wondering how the teacher next to me seem to be sleeping so soundly. I woke up by 6 am, mainly because I couldnt get back to sleep and I couldnt figure out how to place my sleeping bag properly! The sleeping bag was getting on my nerves. In the end I just lie there on the floor, put on my glasses to watch the fishes. I got up by 6.40 and went around the other areas to watch the other fishes too. Hey, the whole aquarium was ours, I wanted to enjoy the moment you know. Haha. While walking to the toilet, I saw Kok Soon, also awake, dipping his hand into the touch pool. I followed suit. I think this must be my first time touching fishes that are alive you know. It was really a nice experience.

After washing up and enjoying another delicious breakfast, we went to the Underwater World one last time. I tell ya, even after spending the night there, going in there again in the morning was still exciting to the boys, and to me! I was also so excited when we were told that we were going to the Pink Dolphins Lagoon! Woohoo. Ok, I know what you must be thinking, this poor girl has been so deprived. Haha.

The Dolphins show was too short, I thought. The best part was getting to touch the dolphin! I have always wanted to do that, ok cool right. It was also scorching hot at this time and I wonder how the trainers could stand in the sun for so long.

It was actually quite sad when it was time to go. I realised that Sentosa had many other areas that we didnt had time to visit, maybe I can go there again next time. I really enjoyed myself and by the time we got back at 5pm, I was so exhausted that I could literally sleep standing up.

What a wonderful experience, I shall be thanking the organisers for all the hard work in preparing for such an enjoyable stay.
