I cannot seem to sleep at night. I find this really ironic since I am able to doze off easily in class when the trainer is talking. Thank you for some of your response to my previous entry. I must make this straight. I might have lost the belief in love for me but I have not lost the hope. I sincerely hope you will not too.
Life is meant to be filled with love. Without it, we are incomplete.
I was reading the article I am supposed to summarize when I get the urge and inspiration to write this entry. Out of the so many topics that were given to us, I have finally decided to choose the topic on Improving Reading Comprehension. I remember the time when I used to dread marking the journals of students who were either:
1. Unable to express what they were trying to say.
2. Do not have any idea what to write about their lives.
3. Do not understand what in the world they are writing in their journals.
I guess some people are just not born to write and express themselves. For this case, I shall not blame the lack of creativity on the student part, but also, my failure as a teacher to scaffold and organized their straight thoughts.
Due to that, there are students who write their daily routine in their journals and the only thing that differ from page to page is the date and also the food that they eat for lunch and dinner. Yes, the horror of marking these journals.
It is stated in this article that 2 types of background knowledge influences the students reading and writing abilities. The first knowledge refers to the knowledge about the world. This is the kind of information that students accumulate through life experiences and through books and other media. The second knowledge involves what students know about texts and how they are constructed. A lack in either will lead to the student having a poor reading and writing comprehension.
Therefore, for those of you who think that I write well, it is not because I am linguistic. I do know others who write better than me despite not being linguistically intelligent. How I write what I write is only because I have been reading the right kind of books throughout the years. I think my years of reading have resulted in me having a better self image, and a better understanding of how the world works. It has also led me to understanding others, and myself better and that knowledge is simply priceless.
Life experiences? I feel old just typing that. Personally, I cannot even start to write about happened in the past that somehow shape the way I am today, in one way or another. I must thank God for giving me a bumpy ride all along, life was never a smooth ride for me. Not even once. There was always something to attend to, something to solve, something to regret, but most important of all, there is always something to be thankful for.
So if you think your life is not going the way you want it to be, complaining and whining about it will do you no good. Focus on all that you have and your energy to create what you want, and you will eventually get there. I did.
