Importance of saying thank you / Tuesday, May 15, 2007 @ 5:44 PM
Importance of saying thank you

I just got home from school. I usually go home around 2 or 3pm during TP but NOW that we HAVE to stay until 3.30 pm, I feel so exhausted. I know it is only 30 minutes extra but seeing the staff room almost vacant at the end of the day is depressing. Perhaps the teachers must be thinking: Oh, the SNO is so hardworking staying back so late...whereas in my mind I am thinking: Damn it, why is the clock moving so slow today? I wanna go home!

Haha.

Coming back to this issue, I thought yesterdays induction could be easily fitted into half a day. I feel like we have so MANY questions and they are not really being answered. For instance the job expectations. I understand that if only they had mentioned way before this, that the best way to know the job expectations is to personally check with the school and reporting officer. Thank goodness, after speaking with my principal today, she herself mentioned that she will be creating a job expectations list for me. That is cool and basic common sense.

Also, yesterday was the only opportunity I had to deliver THE message. Firstly, I was so overwhelmed to see almost everyone in black and white. That is amazing, this meant that we have quite good communication amongst ourselves. Even those who could not access the computer had the initiative to ask other SNOs what was posted on the blog.

I think we delivered our message well and clear. I was already prepared for some resistance so it was not too shocking for me. However, I was disapointed with some of the SNOs attitude of not stepping up. Some mentioned reasons that I find hard to understand. Nevertheless, I was also very proud of the team of committee members who stepped up.

Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.- Dr. Seuss

I was also
attacked by several individuals whom I shall not mentioned. My initial reaction when I received the attack was dejection, disapointment, depression. I took several minutes to realise that this does not matter because I know the bigger picture in mind. To do things, to make things work, to make positive changes, having a clear vision is a must. I also realise that this is nothing compared to what I have been through and knowing that everything happens for a good reason, I must not take offence. I do not gain anything by taking all these nitty gritty stuffs to heart.

Anyway, the true blessing behind this is that I realise what a strong team I have behind me. I receive my first consolation from June and that literally put a smile back on my face. Even though we have move forward and change and we are all finding our own place in the world, we all know that when the tears fall or the smile spreads across our face, we will come to each other because no matter where this crazy world takes us, nothing will ever change so much to the point where we are not all still friends. So to the fellow committee team, THANK YOU! We now have a huge responsibility but the only reason why you are here is because some people believe and trust you. I really appreciate all the support, if we do not support ourseleves, who will?

We shall make the necessary decisions and hopefully, we will not end up like those in this picture:

Laugh. We must find the humour in each situation. It will keep us young!

It was also nice to see and hear some people saying thank you. Appreciation heals. I think we do not say thank you enough in this world. There are people doing everything they can and if only one person take the time to thank them, their environment will seem so much nicer and positive. This was reflected when I gave the teachers I worked with, a bookmark. It consist of a quote, my thank you and their name on it. I left it on their tables and all of them seem to be overjoyed upon receiving it. It must really been quite some time since someone thank them for their hard work.

Anyway, do not worry guys, I know some people are not happy with me for some reason but I am not here to win a popularity contest. Trying to please everyone is an impossible mission even Tom Cruise would reject, so no worries.

God, grant me the courage not to give up what is right even when I think it is hopeless.

I decided not to let my past rule my future so I decided to change my present in order to open up my future.
